I WORLD is a non profit Association of public authorities and universities located in a palace of the XVII century at the City Council of Erice (Italy), which is the founder member of the Association and President of the World Association of Scientists “Ettore Majorana”.
Main aims of I WORLD are the following:
- Research, identification, safeguarding, promotion and valorization of local identities and the key components in which they are present, including the intangible cultural heritage
- Promote the recognition of local identities and oral traditions as full-fledged components of the cultural heritage;
- Contrast the global cultural standardization, by enhancing identities and diversities of places, communities and individuals, which are considered as resources for economic, social and cultural development territories;
Members of the Steering Committee of I WORLD have already ideated, promoted and implemented several relevant projects related to the intangible cultural heritage, such as the R.E.I. (Register of Intangible Heritage), instituted by decree by the Region of Sicily ( http://www.regione.sicilia.it/beniculturali/dirbenicult/info/rei.html) and the project MEDINS: the Mediterranean Intangible Space ( www.invisiblemedins.org), funded by the programme Interreg IIIB Medocc.
